Being active in Cape Town does not necessarily mean an extreme adventure. It might mean hiking through indigenous forest, swimming in a tidal pool, running beside the Atlantic, walking through historic vineyards or exploring the city on foot. For those looking for more, there is surfing, paragliding, kloofing, mountain biking and some outstanding road cycling.

The ride begins as you leave the city behind and enter the Cape Peninsula, one of the most scenic stretches of coastline in the world.
As the road winds south, the scenery changes constantly. Towering mountains rise from the ocean, white sand beaches give way to rugged cliffs, and the scent of fynbos fills the air.
But this coastline is not only defined by natural beauty—it is also steeped in maritime history. For centuries, Portuguese and Dutch explorers navigated these waters during the Age of Discovery, charting routes between Europe and the East. The Cape became a critical waypoint on global trade routes, but also a place feared by sailors.

Kasteelspoort is a hiking trail that finishes at the top of Table Mountain. It is one of the easier routes to the top and also one of the most scenic. Starting in Camps Bay the trail gives you a special view overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the Twelve Apostles. India Venster is one of the more technical routes up Table Mountain, including a number of scrambles and chains. This route starts at the lower cable station and ends near the top of the cable station at the top. Lions Head is a shorter hike with some small scrambles and steep sections. It is technically easy to moderate but does include some steep sections which may be strenuous for some. Skeleton Gorge is a truly spectacular hike featuring by far the most foliage and varied terrain of all hikes on offer here. It starts in Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens which is already spectacular to begin with.
